CHAPTER 293.

An act for the Incorporation of Mount Savage Lodge, number forty-three, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in the State of Maryland.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Andrew Bruce, Henry Thomas, Robert W. Ralf, Thomas Duke and others, the officers and members of Mount Savage Lodge, number forty-three, of the Order of Independent Odd Fellows, attached to the Grand Lodge of Maryland, and their successors, be and they are hereby incorporated and made a body politic and corporate, by the name and number of Mount Savage Lodge, number forty-three, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of the State of Maryland; and by that name may sue and be sued, and have a common seal, and the same at their pleasure alter, and be entitled to use the powers and privileges incident to such corporation.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, that the said corporation shall be capable of taking and holding real and personal estate, not exceeding in value the sum of four thousand dollars, which estate shall never be divided among the members of the corporation, but shall descend to their successors, for the benevolent relief of the sick and distressed, the education of the orphans of its members, and for the promotion of those purposes generally.

 

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, that this corporation shall have power to alter and amend their by-laws at pleasure; provided, they do not conflict with the laws of the State of Maryland, the laws of the United States, or the laws of
the Grand Lodge.


SEC. 4. And be it enacted, that this act of incorporation shall enure for thirty years from its passage, and that
the Legislature reserves to itself the right to alter and amend this act of incorporation at pleasure.

CHAPTER 326.

AN ACT to extend the charter of Mount Savage Lodge number forty-three, Independent Order of Odd Fellows,

granted by the General Assembly of Maryland at its December session, eighteen hundred and forty-four, chapter

two-hundred and ninety-three, and to grant additional power to said corporation.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted, that the provisions of an act passed at the December session, eighteen hundred and forty-four, chapter two hundred and ninety-three, entitled an act for the incorporation of Mount Savage Lodge number forty-three of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in the State of Maryland, be and the same is hereby extended and continued in force for the period of forty years from the date of its expiration in March, eighteen hundred and seventy -five, and until the close of the session of the next General Assembly held, therefore,

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, that all acts of said corporation done by it in its corporate capacity since the expiration of its charter in March, eighteen hundred and seventy-five, be and the same are hereby made as good and valid as the same would have been had said charter been in force at the

time of doing said act.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, that the said corporation shall be capable in law to have, receive, and retain to it, and its successors, property, real and personal not exceeding in value the sum of ten thousand dollars, and the same at its

pleasure, to transfer or dispose of in such manner as it may think proper; provided always that said property shall never be divided among the members of the corporation, but shall descend to their successors, for the benevolent relief of the sick and distressed, the education of the orphans of its members, and for the promotion of those purposes generally.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, that this act shall take effect from the date of its passage.
